Eidos confirms new takeover talks (CVG 16/1/09)

Tomb Raider publisher Eidos has revealed it's in fresh talks about the potential acquisition of the company.

"The board can announce that it has received a preliminary approach which may or may not lead to an offer being made for the company," Eidos said in a statement.

"Eidos emphasises that discussions are at a very early stage and that there can be no assurance that an offer will be forthcoming."

Numerous suitors have been linked with a possible Eidos takeover in recent times, including Warner Bros. and Square Enix late last year.

Eidos' revelation comes shortly after the company acknowledged that sales of Tomb Raider Underworld had failed to meet expectations.

Based on Underworld's sales, and the performance of other games, Eidos lowered its full year revenues forecast to £160m-£180m, down £20 million compared to previous estimates.

"Further statements will be issued in due course as appropriate," Eidos added of the current takeover talks.
