Nintendo says it isn't too worried by the slowing rate of Wii sales in Japan.

According to games research group Enterbrain, Wii shifted 99,335 units in the five weeks to March 29 - last month's total was down 63 percent compared to a year ago.


"It is still the first few months of the year when sales are slow for the industry, so we are not particularly concerned," Nintendo told the Financial Times, adding, "we hope to line up strong software to support hardware sales in the second half of the year".

While Wii sales are down, PS3 was Japan's bestselling home console in the five weeks to March 29, moving 146,948 sales and regularly dominating the hardware charts in the process.

Nevertheless, all-time Wii sales in Japan total almost eight million units, while PS3's just recently hit three million and 360's one million.
