2009's top PS3, 360 and Wii games named (CVG 21/7/09)
The NPD Group has released data showing the top five selling games across PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii in the US market during the first half of 2009.
The chart data, which was provided to Gamasutra, didn't include limited or collector's edition versions of each game.
Sony's Killzone 2 was the bestselling PS3 game during the first six months of the year. Capcom's Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter IV took second and third, followed by THQ's UFC 2009: Undisputed and Sony's MLB '09: The Show. The report points out that none of the titles have sold a million copies in the States so far this year.
Capcom titles also performed strongly on Xbox 360, with Resident Evil 5 taking the chart top spot and Street Fighter IV fifth place. Sandwiched between them were UFC 2009: Undisputed, Activision's Call Of Duty: World At War and Microsoft's Halo Wars. Xbox 360 sales of Resident Evil 5 and UFC 2009: Undisputed are known to have surpassed one million units so far this year.
Wii software sales data for the first six months of 2009 is perhaps most interesting. First party titles Wii Fit, Wii Play and Mario Kart Wii took the top three places, having sold 3.06 million, 1.5 million and 1.4 million copies respectively. Two of these games were released last year, while Wii Play debuted in 2007. EA Sports Active and Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga took fourth and fifth.
Wii Fit, Wii Play and Mario Kart Wii were also the three top selling games for individual platforms in the UK during the first six months of the year, according to ELSPA. Killzone 2, Resident Evil 5 and Call Of Duty: World At War all made the top ten.
