Games linked to kids' speech problems (CVG 3/1/09)
Gaming, among other pastimes, has been linked to a decline in kids' language ability.
That's according to The Telegraph, which reports that experts fear that speech problems are now more widespread than dyslexia or autism.
'Toddlers could be screened for speech problems after evidence that many are so addicted to television and video games that they are failing to learn basic communication skills,' says the report.
'The decline of the traditional family meal time, the long-hours culture in the parents' workplaces, poor childcare with little stimulation and social deprivation are also being blamed,' it adds.
Apparently, just a tenth of children in some areas can recite even a single nursery rhyme, while in extreme cases some don't even know their own name.
Scary stuff, although games are probably no more a part of the problem than anything else.
(What a load of bollox)
