iPhone games top 6,000 (CVG 9/3/09)

Apple's iPhone has amassed a game library that now tops 6,000 titles.

That's according to mobile analytics firm Mobclix, which says that 1,516 of the 6,276 games available for the platform are free to download.

Puzzle games are most readily available (there are 2,147 of them), followed by arcade (1358) and action (1310) titles. On the other end of the scale are sports games (393) and racing ones (116), according to the site.

Speaking of Apple's growing role in the games market, Game Brief analyst Nicholas Lovell said recently that the iPod Touch "is an easy-to-use device that offers consumers their music, podcasts, short-form video and accessible games on the move and in my opinion, will be the final nail in the PSP's coffin".

Apple devices might be building up massive game libraries quickly but we reckon PSP has still got plenty of life in it, especially with the likes of LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm, Assassin's Creed and Rock Band all headed to the platform.
