Dual-Boot Windows Vista with Linux Ubuntu (Vista Primary)

Post by VampiricPadraig on Fri Jan 30, 2009 3:59 pm

What you need
  • At least 10GB of space in your HDD or a 2sd HDD
  • A Ubuntu CD (This can be downloaded on the offical Ubuntu website..Google It)
  • A bit of time and "Gordan Ramsey" Feckin Patience

Ready...Got all??...Get a cuppa and start reading...

1. On Vista...you have to partition your current C: drive...So go to "Start" and right-click on "Computer" and go to "Manage"...If you have to accept UAC (User Account Control) DO!!

2.On the left hand side click "Storage>Disk Management"

3. On the bottom half of the screen right-click on your C: drive and click "Shrink Volume" and wait...

4. Now yer done...Put in the Ubuntu disc and shut the system down.

5. Turn on your computer and load from the disc (If you do not know how to do this you can GTFO (Get the F**k out))

6. Once you have completely destroyed your machine to find out how to run from the CD...load up into Ubuntu and double-click install on the desktop and follow the easy setup options

7. On the partition screen select the option known as "Guided" and follow the rest of the instructions.

8. Reboot and you are DONE!!!

This is only a quick guide...I will get screenshots and elaborate on these points later

Now....You are probably sick of using or havn't bothered using Ubuntu and now you wanna remove it...Ready??? Let's Go!!!

1. Go to your Start Menu and right-click "Computer" and then "Manage" then locate the small drive that is there (To confirm...click "My Computer" and then look at your size of your C;\...thats the one NOT TO DELETE)

2. Delete the partition then right-click and select "Extend Volume"

3. Then grab your "Vista Recovery DVD" and insert in then shutdown...restart then "boot from cd"

NOTE: IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE VISTA DISC YOU WILL ENCOUNTER PROBLEMS AND YOU WILL ENCOUNTER GRUB ERROR 17

4. Load the CD then go to "Repair your computer"...select the C;\ then ggo to "Command prompt" then type this

Code:
x:/Sources/Bootrec.exe /FixMbr

CASE SENSITIVE CODE

Restart and then you are done...Enjoy Full Vista..
