The Halo Killer Empty The Halo Killer

Post by Irish_COP Thu Jan 29, 2009 3:50 pm

The hype for Killzone 2 has been building for four years now. When the now infamous target render was shown at E3 in 2005 a backlash was created that still hurts Sony to this very day. Now with a month left until Killzone 2 is unleashed upon the masses GamingFront.net takes a look at how it has come to exceed every expectation that anyone could of had. Killzone 2 is the real deal. The real ’Halo Killer’.

By now everyone knows that the game looks amazing. Early reports of bad A.I. have been put to rest, and the game is number one on both Amazon.com and Play.com’s pre-orders. The reviews have started to come in and all of them are extremely positive. It should be mentioned All of these positives for this game, and we have not even seen the media blitz that should be coming by this weekend. Killzone 2 looks poised to be a land mark title for not only Sony’s PS3 but for the FPS genera in general.
So why is this game a Halo killer? There are three main reasons for it.

1. The single player is an epic sci-fi story.

"Killzone 2 follows the events of Killzone and Killzone: Liberation and will take place entirely on the planet Helgahn, the home-world of the Helghast, who invaded an Interplanetary Strategic Alliance (ISA) colony. Two years after the Helghast assault on Vekta, the ISA has launched an assault on the enemy’s home world of Helghan. The ISA goal is to capture the Helghast leader, Emperor Scolar Visari, and bring the Helghast war machine to a halt. Players assume the role of SergeantTomas "Sev" Sevchenko, a battle-hardened veteran of the special forces unit known as "The Legion", who go on a mission to take out the Helghast threat."

"During the invasion of Helghan, Sev’s unit is deployed behind enemy lines to assist the main invasion force. Tasked with securing the enemy capital of Pyrrhus, the team quickly discovers that the Helghast are a more formidable enemy on their home planet. Not only have they adjusted to Helghan’s hostile conditions, they have also harnessed a source of power they can now use against the ISA - the very planet on which they live. A barren, unforgiving world, Helghan provides a ready defense with thick, acidic air, dust clouds, and violent surgical lightning storms. Sev discovers his squad is not just fighting enemy forces – their fiercest opponent may be the planet itself."

2. The Multi-player is better than Halo:

"Warzone plays out through dynamic matches whereby multiple game types are played in a single round. The game ships with five different game types including Assassination, Search & Retrieve, Search & Destroy, Bodycount and Capture & Hold. Up to 32 players can connect online, and group into squads of up to four players. Furthermore, two squads can group together as a faction of eight players. Killzone 2 also offers a clan system, which allows clans of up to 64 players to compete for "Valor Points", an in-game currency that clans can use to bet on tournaments."

3. Microsoft will suck the life out the Halo Franchise

This is most apparent with the soon to be released Real Time Strategy game ’Halo Wars’ set to release March 3rd just four days after Killzone 2. It is natural for a game publisher to cling onto a successful franchise, but Halo Wars attempts to mix two things that just don’t mix. RTS games and Console’s. To its credit developer Ensemble developed the controls six months before approaching Microsoft with the game pitch. It remains to be seen if all the time spent on controls was worth it. So far reactions have been mixed. Also this year 360 owners will be treated to yet another Halo spin off Halo 3: ODST which will ship with Halo 3 map-packs. Sadly there is even more Halo coming in the next few years, Halo Chronicles is said to be released within the next year to year and a half and Microsoft is even creating a team to just work on Halo games. This in the end will only lead to over saturation of the Halo brand. Which in turn will lead to the demise of Halo.

Killzone 2 is said to be a great achievement in gaming and soon gamers all over the world will have their say. Killzone 2 could be very similar to the first Halo in a sense that, the first Halo was made popular mainly by word of mouth and stellar reviews. There could be a new king in the FPS genera come Feb. 27th. If any game has ever ben poised to steal Halo’s crown, Killzone 2 is that game.

Does it really matter?

A game being good is only a matter of opinion anyway.
In my opinion, Halo 2/3 sucked anyway so it shouldn't be hard to beat it.
