Confirmed: No FFXIII until 2010 (CVG 16/1/09)

Deep down we all kind of knew it, but now it's official. Final Fantasy XIII won't be released anywhere outside Japan until 2010.

Yoichi Wada, president of Square Enix, confirmed the painful wait won't come to an end until at least April 2010 for western fans of the series.

Plans for the game to launch in Japan remain the same, although there's still no specific date, which we assume means its not likely to arrive until the back end of this year.

No reason was given for the long wait for the West, but FF fans will know that translating the game's mammoth script will have something to do with it.

Why, in this day and age of global launches, Square hasn't got a translation department churning out our words in parallel to the game's Japanese development cycle, we don't know...

On a brighter note, Wada also told Reuters: "The sluggish economy has not hurt us that much yet." Always good to hear.
