Countdown appears online for "VII Days", which we assume has something to do with Final Fantasy VII. Or is that what Square wants us to think. Or is it a double bluff?

Whatever it is, the countdown hits zero in under two hours (thanks Darren). Check back at noon for the reveal.

Some deals you have to work at, like sending in a rebate form or driving to a store. Then there's the $100 Sony PlayStation 3. It's a real deal, but with three hoops you have to jump through.

Here's how it works. First, you sign up for Sony's new, no-annual-fee PlayStation Visa card (click the above link), which offers instant online approval. Next, head to SonyStyle.com and order an 80GB PlayStation 3 for $399.99.

Sometime in the next 8-12 weeks, Sony will issue you a $100 credit, bringing your net cost down to $299.99.

In the interim (i.e., within three months),...

I have earned myself a reputation as a "Sony basher" and a "PS3 hater" by people who clearly do not know the difference between the two. Contrary to popular belief, I do not hate the PlayStation 3. In fact, I love it, and at the time of writing, it is my favorite current-generation console. This could change in the future, as my favorite system is decided by what games are appealing to me at any given moment, not by which one my Mommy and Daddy just happened to get me for Christmas. Right now, the PS3 is top of my chart.

However, it is true that I bash Sony, frequently...

That Apple iPhone is pretty popular with just about everyone these days and as it becomes more and more ubiquitous it's also becoming a better and better gaming platform with some real and noteworthy games coming out for it. Like any good, world dominating company Sony wants in on some of that hot, hot action and are thus, as Japan's Nikkei business daily is reporting, starting to develop a "cellphone-game gear hybrid."

Development on the project will begin next month with a specialized team tackling the job. The job in question is to "develop a new product that combines...

The sequel to the Hitman movie, which is still in its early stages, won't be just a sequel to a pretty crummy movie. It'll also be a marketing tie-in for the next Hitman game, which is due out next year.

Variety reports that the movie, which we told you about yesterday, would "contain story elements from Hitman 5", a game due to be released "in late 2010".

While we knew the game was in development, but 2010? Handy. Been hanging out for some new Hitman.

The ESRB has rated Final Fantasy VII for both PS3 and PSP, which means those lucky Americans are going to be looking at the game as a download at some point in the future.
No idea if it’s coming to Europe. It’s already released on PSN in Japan.

A few months ago we posted a partial setlist from upcoming Playstation Portable rocker Rock Band Unplugged.

It looks like the official website for the game has expanded the list by a few, adding another five or so songs to the list of music coming on the game. On top of that, someone's posted what is supposed to be video captured from an early leak of the game showing the full setlist.

Six-year-old Eliso Tovar was given a late Christmas present by his mother recently in the form of a PSP. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the gift that kept on giving, when it was discovered that the console, freshly purchased from Walmart, was stuffed to the digital gills with delicious porn.

Alarm bells were already ringing when the console's wallpaper was discovered to be a woman with her bulbous funtumors hanging out. It only got worse when "hundreds of pornographic images" were found by the bemused boy. Walmart has offered a free PSP game to go with the system by way...

Sony has made plenty of mistakes with the Playstation 3 when the system launched in 2006. Throughout the years, however, they were able to fix some of the more prevalent problems. Still, the Playstation 3 has a long way to go in order live up to its original promises. Here are the top five current mistakes Sony is making with the Playstation 3.

    5. Weak Third-Party Support
While the situation isn’t as dire as it was in the past, many third-party companies still prefer working with the Xbox 360 than the Playstation 3. As a result, most third party games look better while others...

    News Pspslide

According to Pocket Gamer, who cite a developer working on the hardware, an all-new PlayStation Portable will be out and on store shelves before Christmas.

This source repeats earlier rumours surrounding the design of the system - such as the fact it features a sliding screen (which reveals game controls) and also boasts touchscreen capabilities - while also mentioning some other stuff, such as the release window and the fact that, once you slide the controls out from under the screen there...

As the weekend shopkeeper I'm not on most PR primary distribution lists. So the "Statement from Sony PlayStation on PSP and Competitive Landscape," isn't in my hands as I type this. But it's out there.

    Oh, is it out there.

Here's the text of the release, republished on both Engadget and Wired, and attributed to John Koller, the SCEA director of hardware marketing. It doesn't sound too temperate. By the way, unless this is all a hoax, I'm still waiting for my copy:
If Nintendo is really committed to reaching a broader, more diverse audience of...
