Nintendo may be the console king of the mountain, thanks to its runaway success with the Wii and Nintendo DS. But it wasn't always so, as Edge Online explores.

Before the glory of motion control and touchscreen gameplay reversed Nintendo's fortunes, it settled for third place in the console wars, delivering the sometimes spectacular, sometimes mediocre Nintendo 64 and GameCube. Edge is currently looking back at the company's generation transition pains from way back in 1996, some of which you may already be intimately familiar with.

Namco Bandai announced the latest home console entry in its Tales of series.

Dubbed Tales of Graces, the game is coming to the Wii this winter. Mutsumi Inomata is doing the character design. She's known for anime work on My-HIME and Future GPX Cyber Formula as well as working seven titles in the Tales of series.

The game's theme is "protection", and according to Namco, the battle system and system screens are different from pervious titles.

If Nintendo's exergaming success hacks you off, might want to stop here. A screen shot from a game shop out in Amsterdam says "Wii Fit Plus" is on the way mid-November.

Perhaps more importantly, the Wii Motion Plus controller, and a Wii Sports 2 Resort, bundled with the controller, have drop dates of July 10.
